Contemporary Aboriginal Art

Pronunciation: clap-AY (rhymes with café)

Welcome! I’m Katelynn.

Art has always been my passion. Working at my local council since 16, they've been incredible supporters, encouraging art classes and commissioning custom pieces. Self-taught, I persistently explore new ideas in my artistic journey. My Indigenous background is Yamitji/Noonga from my grandmother, part of the Stolen Generation, and Jabirr Jabirr/Nyil Nyil Yawurru from my grandfather.

Middle School

In middle school, I painted a rice field that resonated with a buyer. He was delighted, prompting teachers and students to track me down for a photo with the artwork. Additionally, in art class, I drew a turtle that left my teacher so impressed that she created a grade on the spot and awarded me an A++.

Primary School

In grade 3, I had the chance to showcase my artwork in front of my primary school. The previous year, in grade 2, I won a drawing competition – a remarkable feat considering there were only five winners in the entire school. As a prize, I received tickets to the V8 Supercars event.
